CLASSICALLY TRAINED

BWT made its professional debut in October 1996 when they were the first musical event at McNally Robinson Book Sellers, Grant Park.

They have played continuously since that time and have recorded 4 CDs including the Jazz For Christmas albums.

Their Christmas albums are perennial favourites.

Bob Watts - Drums

Bob is a professional financial planner by day..... at night he “swings and smiles” on the drum kit.

He started his musical journey at age 12 when he was inspired by Benny Goodman’s version of Louie Prima’s “Sing, Sing, Sing”.

He learned to play jazz at McNally Robinson.

A member of the Holy Trinity Church Gospel Band for 20 years, he has deep roots in many musical genres.

Bob is overjoyed to play the drums and continuously studies his instrument.


Bob is actively playing in two provinces Monthly.

Bert Johnson - Piano

Bert is an extraordinary musician.

He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba School of Music and has a masters degree in music from McGill.

He and Bob have played professionally together for 15 years.

He could be described as “calm” and intense at the same moment.

Nenad NdjelaB - Acoustic Bass

A Yugoslavian symphonic bass player who ended up in Winnipeg.....

A first call player for any symphonic “pops” gig in Winnipeg.....

Nenad has played everywhere.

He just “smiles and swings”.

 

Jazz Vespers


Bob lives in Victoria.

He loves sacred music and Jazz that “swings”, so he married the two genres and created Jazz Vespers.

Since it’s humble begins as a Christmas Concert in 2009, they have performed at

his home church St Philip Anglican Church Oak Bay 80 times.

The monthly concert features a variety of sacred tunes that have been “jazzed”.

It features an acoustic Jazz Trio consisting of piano, bass and drums featuring

Victoria’s best players and vocalists such as Charlotte Martin, Edie Daponte, Joey Smith,

Tony Genge, Karel Roessingh, Ryan Tandy, Stephanie Greaves,

Darcy Philips, Maureen Washington, Pablo Cardenas to name a few.
